WASHINGTON – Rep. Veasey voted last night to enshrine marriage equality into federal law in response to continued right-wing threats to the liberties of Texans. The Respect for Marriage Act will officially repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a defunct and discriminatory statute excluding same-sex couples from marriage under federal law. This legislation will also codify new protections, ensuring no married couple can be denied protections and benefits under federal law based on sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Veasey today voted on bold legislative action to defend women's reproductive freedom. As Republicans attempt to criminalize abortion across the country, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Women's Health Protection Act to ensure Americans' right to make their own health decisions and the Ensuring Women's Right to Reproductive Freedom Act to reaffirm the right to travel throughout the country to access life-saving reproductive care freely.

Representative Marc Veasey (TX-33) introduced the Small Business Payment for Performance Act along with Representative Pete Stauber (MN-08), Representative Scott Peters (CA-52), and Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01). This bipartisan bill will require fair and ethical treatment of small construction contractors by federal agencies during the procurement process.

WASHINGTON – Last week, Rep. Marc Veasey voted for bipartisan legislation that takes historic steps to combat gun violence and protect Texas communities. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will help save lives by keeping weapons out of dangerous hands, strengthening mental health services and bolstering school safety. The first major gun violence prevention legislation passed by Congress in nearly three decades, and has now been signed into law by President Biden.
