Rep. Veasey Statement on Harmful, Republican-led Legislation that puts Politics over Children and Parents
WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Veasey released the following statement after he joined his Democratic colleagues to vote against H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act legislation:
"As a father of a child currently in school, I am deeply disappointed by Republican politicians' so-called ‘Parents Bill of Rights Act' legislation. The fact is the legislation that we voted on today puts politics over students, parents, and educators by turning classrooms across our nation into the epicenter of their extreme culture war. The legislation would not take meaningful steps to help students succeed or support parental engagement."
"Instead, today's bill will enact burdensome reporting requirements on schools, divert essential resources away, and advance censorship and book bans that deprive students of an accurate and fact-based education. I want to do what is best for my son and the rest of our students, parents, and educators, which is why I voted against this legislation."
