FORT WORTH - Sooner or later, if it goes on long enough, the sequester will somehow affect most Americans' lives, U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey said Monday.

That's why he hopes Congress can pass a measure soon to lessen the effects of the automatic spending cuts triggered because federal leaders couldn't agree on a better way to cut federal spending.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey Votes for Democratic Budget Alternative.

Today Congressman Marc Veasey voted against the Republican Ryan budget. The budget slashes critical investments in our future and hurts women, students, seniors and middle class families. Among the cuts are $98 billion for the Pell Grant program and $810 billion for Medicare. It also denies 27 million Americans access to affordable health care and drastically cuts nutrition assistance which currently serves 48 million people.

FORT WORTH – On March 12, 2013, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) announced the awarding of over $500,000 federal funds to the Fort Worth Housing Authority (FWHA). The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $250,000 in Emergency Capital Funds to FWHS, which will be used to improve the safety and security at Butler Place Public Housing Community. Another $269,856 will go to the Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program that assists families with supportive services.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Thursday, February 28, Congressman Marc Veasey voted in favor of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). House Republicans sought to pass a version of the legislation that would have weakened current law and was opposed by over 1,300 organizations.

With Congressman Marc Veasey’s support, Congress instead approved the Senate bipartisan version that includes protections for the LGBT community, and Native American and immigrant women.
