Freshman Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, said he invited an illegal immigrant to tonight’s State of the Union address to highlight the need to overhaul the nation’s immigration system.

Julieta Garibay, who moved from Mexico to Austin at age 12, is a University of Texas graduate and founding board member of the United We DREAM Network.

Today, Congressman Marc Veasey’s office announced his subcommittee assignments on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. In December, Congressman Veasey was named to the powerful House Armed Services Committee.
