Last Friday in Dallas' Oak Lawn neighborhood, a former college football player, a global expert on walkable cities, a 57-year-old Ethiopian immigrant and a U.S. congressman gathered outside a Chinese restaurant. Facing a row of TV cameras and reporters, they took turns praising the new health insurance options available since Obamacare took effect, and urging their uninsured neighbors to enroll in a plan by March 31—the deadline to get health insurance before facing a tax penalty.

According to the latest data from HHS, 207,546 Texans are newly enrolled in health insurance. That's more people who have enrolled than any other state except Florida.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, invites local high school students in the Metroplex to participate in the first annual congressional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) academic competition, the House Student App Challenge. This competition is a nationwide event that showcases all participating congressional districts high school student's ingenuity in creating a software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

Texas officials have begun interviewing candidates for the position of state seismologist, Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter said Wednesday.

Porter, testifying before the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, was asked by Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, about residents' concerns about a string of earthquakes around Azle that started in November. The Railroad Commission, which regulates the oil and gas industry in Texas, on Jan. 14 announced its intention to create the new position.

Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33) was awarded the 2013 Leadership Award by the Century Council, an independent nonprofit organization, this week.

Each year the Century Council awards members of Congress who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment and leadership to fight against drunk driving and underage drinking.

"I fully understand the societal pressures our youth face every day," Veasey said. "As a father, I recognize the importance of having an open conversation with your child on how to rise above the peer pressure and to be comfortable just saying no."
