This week, the civil rights legacy of President Lyndon B. Johnson is being celebrated and every Texan should be proud.

President Barack Obama and three living former U.S. Presidents -- George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter -- are visiting the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin to discuss such issues as same-sex marriage, immigration policy, race, women, and education and to honor President Johnson's tremendous leadership in winning passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

Washington D.C.—Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement in regard to his concern for H.R. 4414, the Expatriate Health Coverage Clarification Act of 2014, legislation that would impact health coverage plan protections for millions of workers under the Affordable Care Act:

“Today, as the House of Representatives considers H.R. 4414, the Expatriate Health Coverage Clarification Act of 2014, I want to express my deep concern, as it would establish dangerous precedent under the Affordable Care Act.

Marc Veasey, TX-33, said that more needs to be done to close the wage gap that still exists between women and men – including passage of the critical Paycheck Fairness Act. National Equal Pay Day symbolizes the point at which, more than three months into the year, women's wages finally catch up to what men were paid in the previous year.

WASHINGTON — The haunting scene of another mass shooting at Fort Hood is igniting a debate among lawmakers, especially from Texas, about the Pentagon's rules against personnel carrying guns on military bases.

Wednesday's shooting marks 28 victims killed in three mass shootings at military installations over the last five years.

The 1993 Pentagon regulation was designed to ensure safety by imposing "limit and control" of firearms on military and civilian workers at bases.

Updated 4 p.m. | Rep. Jeff Denham wants a vote on his bill that would allow illegal immigrants brought to the country as children to gain permanent residence in the United States in exchange for military service — and he's got a plan in the works.

The California Republican is looking for Democrats and Republicans who are members of the House Armed Services Committee to sign on as co-sponsors of his legislation, known as the ENLIST Act, a House GOP aide familiar with Denham's efforts told CQ Roll Call.
