HHS Secretary Sebelius Touts Obamacare in Fort Worth
U.S. Secretary for Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius returned to North Texas Thursday to again urge residents to sign up for Obamacare before the March 31 deadline.
This time, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports, she visited Tarrant County College's south campus to reiterate that 23 percent of Texans are without health insurance. She was joined by U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, Tarrant County Commissioner Roy C. Brooks and TCC Chancellor Emma Johnson Hadley.
Earlier this month, enrollment figures showed that nearly 300,000 Texans had registered for insurance using President Barack Obama's online marketplace through the end of February. According to the Census, however, 6 million state residents still lack coverage.
On Friday night, Sebelius will head north to Denton for an NAACP event at Texas Women's University. Affordable Care Act navigators will be on hand from 6:30 p.m. to midnight in the student union to help explain coverage and promote health advocacy.
Last month, Sebelius teamed with the NAACP in Dallas at Paul Quinn College, where she, along with Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D–Dallas, and NAACP Branch President Juanita Wallace, pressed students to sign up for insurance.
