Mr. Oak Cliff Jason Roberts attended the State of the Union Address this week as a guest of Congressman Marc Veasey. Roberts, who lost to Veasey in a 2012 bid for U.S. House of Representatives, was there to share his story of success with Obamacare.

Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33) was awarded the 2013 Leadership Award by the Century Council, an independent nonprofit organization, this week.

Each year the Century Council awards members of Congress who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment and leadership to fight against drunk driving and underage drinking.

"I fully understand the societal pressures our youth face every day," Veasey said. "As a father, I recognize the importance of having an open conversation with your child on how to rise above the peer pressure and to be comfortable just saying no."

President Barack Obama is expected to renew his push for immigration reform during his State of the Union address tonight, but a group of more than 30 House Democrats led by Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona say that isn’t enough. They want him to use his executive powers to suspend deportations until Congress passes immigration legislation.

WASHINGTON It has been a long and difficult road for Jason Roberts, a former Democratic candidate for Texas’ 33rd Congressional District who found himself in Washington on Tuesday in a very different role: cancer survivor and champion of the Affordable Care Act.

Roberts, 39, of Oak Cliff, was selected to be the high-profile guest of the candidate who ultimately won the 2012 election, Democratic Rep. Marc Veasey, at President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.
