Washington D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, Member of the Congressional Black Caucus released the following statement marking the passing of Maya Angelou:

"A talented and remarkable woman, Dr. Maya Angelou dedicated her life to making a difference in the lives of others. I can remember reading her poetry as a young man and feeling deeply connected with the words that continue to speak to the conscience of our nation.

The health fair is from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Diamond Hill Community Center, 1701 NE 36th St.

Washington D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after the House passed the Fiscal Year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act:

"Today, the House of Representatives worked in a bipartisan way to approve the Howard P. 'Buck' McKeon National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2015.

Earlier this month a severe storm pounded North Texas, leaving Allen resident David Dobrenic wishing he had a storm shelter in his house.

"Just a safety factor, you can't put a price on a life," said Dobrenic.

Last summer Dobrenic signed his family up for the North Central Texas Safe Room Rebate Program, which helps pay for storm shelters.

From the moment it launched, there's been an overwhelming amount of interest.

Molly Thoerner, with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, manages the program. She said they had no idea there would be so much demand.

Washington, D.C. – On Friday, May 23rd, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, presented Staff Sgt. Phillip Quintin, of Fort Worth, with a Purple Heart and other medals for his service in the U. S. Army, during the Vietnam War, and his service in the U. S. Air Force. Veasey's office helped Staff Sgt. Quintin obtain his medals by contacting the appropriate federal agencies, when Staff Sgt. Quintin had previously run into roadblocks.

Washington, D.C. – Last week, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, recognized the "App Junkies," as the winners for the 33rd Congressional District in the first annual STEM Student App Challenge. This competition is a nationwide event that showcases all participating congressional districts' high school students' ingenuity in creating a software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

Arlington, TX – Last Tuesday, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, joined Governor Rick Perry, Mayor Robert Cluck, and Congressman Joe Barton, in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the General Motors Arlington Assembly Plant. Manufacturing plants, like General Motors, have been instrumental in boosting the economy in the 33rd Congressional District and at a national level.
