Congressman Veasey Announces Winner of the 2014 House STEM Student App Challenge
Recognizes CD33 high school students as winners of the first annual STEM Student App Challenge
Washington, D.C. – Last week, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, recognized the "App Junkies," as the winners for the 33rd Congressional District in the first annual STEM Student App Challenge. This competition is a nationwide event that showcases all participating congressional districts' high school students' ingenuity in creating a software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.
Twelfth grade students from the Townview School of Business and Management, Itsel Cano, Juan Mendoza, and Kaylon Walton, known as the "App Junkies", won the prestigious title with their creative application that allows students to access an on-the-go study tool for high school AP exams. Their winning application will be featured in a new science and tech display in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. and on the U.S. House of Representative's website.

The judges for the STEM App Challenge, Dr. David Levine from the University of Texas at Arlington, Dr. Taylor Johnson from the University of Texas at Arlington, and David Browning, Vice President of Business and Administrative Services for the El Centro Business Department, evaluated all entries for their originality, ease of use, and societal impact.
