Dallas, TX – Rep. Marc Veasey, TX-33, visited the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) on Monday, November 4 to tour the facility and to discuss hunger and the potential impacts of food assistance programs due to recent food-aid funding cuts.

Earlier this month, SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, was cut by 5 percent after the 2009 Recovery Act's temporary increase in benefits expired leaving participants with just $1.40 to spend per meal. According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, 3.5 million Texas residents receive SNAP benefits.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As lawmakers from both parties begin to negotiate a long-term budget agreement, 178 Democrats in the House are calling on Speaker Boehner and the Republican leadership to publicly declare that they will not use the threat of another government shutdown or default on U.S. debt as a political tactic in the budget talks. The first public meeting of the 29-member bipartisan House-Senate Budget Conference Committee was held on Wednesday, October 30th.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Once the clock strikes midnight on October 31st, the 2009 Recovery Act’s temporary 13% boost in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will end. That translates to a substantial reduction in monthly SNAP benefits for thousands of residents across Texas.
