WASHINGTON Just days before the 8th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Shelby v. Holder decision, the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus announced that Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) will serve as co-chair of the Caucus. Congresswoman Williams is a Congressional leader in the fight for voting rights and succeeds her friend, mentor and civil rights icon, Congressman John Lewis.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of the Juneteenth 2021 holiday, Rep. Veasey joined his colleagues today to pass S. 475, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act – legislation that establishes Juneteenth as a federal holiday. "Juneteenth," observed on June 19, marks the anniversary of when federal officials arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War and slavery in the United States of America had ended.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Veasey (TX-33) applauded the bipartisan passage of the INVEST in America Act of 2021 out of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The bill is a five-year reauthorization of surface transportation measures and includes critical funding that Rep. Veasey secured for local projects, including the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Congressman Marc Veasey led a letter urging Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael S. Regan to work with stakeholders in the community to review the potential public health impacts of the proposed Bosque Solutions Concrete Batch plant. Though the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has denied the permit for now, a thorough review of the project is merited to address public health concerns.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) and eight of his colleagues in the Texas Congressional Delegation sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to safeguard the right to vote as the Texas State Legislature moves closer to passing restrictive voter suppression laws that will make it harder to vote for all Texans across the state, especially communities of color.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Marc Veasey (TX-33) along with Representatives Nikema Williams (GA-05), Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Terri A. Sewell (AL-07), and Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) announced the introduction of the Voters on the Move Registration Act. Built off an amendment that Representative Williams successfully passed into H.R. 1: For the People Act of 2021 back in March, this legislation will make it easier for people to register to vote as they change residences.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Veasey voted for H.R. 3233, legislation to establish an independent, bipartisan 9/11-type commission to examine and report upon the facts, causes and security relating to the terrorist mob attack on the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021. The Commission would also be charged with making recommendations to prevent future attacks on our democracy.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Veasey (TX-33) applauded the passage of the Fairness in Orphan Drug Exclusivity Act (H.R. 1629). The legislation was re-introduced by Reps. Dean (PA-04) and Veasey (TX-33) earlier this year and will expand life-saving opioid treatment options by closing the loophole that could be used to block pharmaceutical competition and prevent innovative treatments for opioid use disorder from coming to market.

However, an industry-wide transition to digital media and the pandemic-induced recession has led to a rapid decline of the local news industry.
