Washington, D.C. – Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33), co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, joined his colleagues today to introduce the Protecting Election Administration from Interference Act in the House. This bill would improve our democracy by establishing greater safeguards against potential election subversion efforts to ensure elections and vote counting are performed fairly, transparently, and without partisan influence.

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Veasey (TX-33), co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, joined over 190 members of the House of Representatives to introduce H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, legislation that restores federal oversight for states with a recent history of voter discrimination.

Today, Congressman Veasey (TX-33) issued the following statement on the situation in Afghanistan:

"The current situation in Afghanistan is tragic for everyone who has worked to stabilize the country and root out terrorism. President Biden's address underscores that there are no easy answers to this situation in Afghanistan. I support the decision to bring our troops home after 20 long years, but I also believe we must answer the tough questions about why we were not better prepared to respond to the unfolding crisis.

WASHINGTON - Today marks 56 years since the enactment of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). The VRA is a critical piece of legislation that fights against voter suppression by abolishing discriminatory voting practices and requires federal oversight of election changes in states with a history of voter discrimination. In 2013, key components of the law were gutted by the Supreme Court in its Shelby County v. Holder decision allowing states to reverse course and erect deliberate barriers to voting.

DALLAS – With the federal eviction moratorium expired and the state level moratorium ending on October 1, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33), Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30) today ask the State of Texas and North Texas governments to increase efforts to disburse rental relief funds to tenants and landlords to help keep North Texans in their homes.

Marc Veasey (D-TX-33) announced that he is an original co-sponsor of the Medicaid Saves Lives Act, legislation that would create a federal Medicaid-style program for those living in states like Texas that have refused to expand Medicaid. The bill, led by Reps. Terri Sewell (D-AL-7) Kathy Manning (D-NC-6), Kathy Castor (D-FL-14), Nikema Williams (D-GA-5), Lucy McBath (D-GA-6), Gwen Moore (D-WI-04) and Deborah Ross (D-NC-2), was introduced this week.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the United State House of Representatives passed the Veasey-led "MEDIA Diversity Act"—bipartisan legislation that amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require the Federal Communications Commission to consider market entry barriers for women and minorities in the communications marketplace report under section 13 of such Act.
