Fort Worth, TX – This week Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, rolled up his sleeves to learn firsthand about the work required to produce Mrs. Renfro's staple gourmet salsas, sauces, and Texas inspired food products. During his shift, Veasey assisted the Renfro manufacturing team with a range of tasks that gave him a new perspective on how a 77 year old family-owned business continues to thrive and remain innovative within the food industry.

Fort Worth, Texas – On Tuesday, April 24, 2017, Congressman Veasey awarded Heavenly Najar, a freshman at Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy, with this year's top prize in the 33rd Congressional District 2017 Congressional Art Competition. Heavenly's piece, Bisabuela, was chosen as the overall winner for her use of rich color and mixed medium style that combined traditional painting techniques with a non-conventional wood canvas.

During his shift, Veasey will work on the production line to help make 145 jars of sauce per minute, prepare Mrs. Renfro's products for nationwide distribution, and learn what it takes to keep a 77 year old family-owned business thriving.

Though attendance was lower than organizers had hoped, thousands of people marched across downtown Dallas to City Hall on Sunday, April 9 demanding immigration reform.

At Dallas City Hall, speakers represented the broad spectrum of organizers.

Speaking as a member of the LGBT community, the Rev. Neil Cazares-Thomas of Cathedral of Hope called himself an immigrant and an American and said the Bible teaches us to welcome the stranger.

With the heat of the day beating down on downtown Dallas, a mass of people dressed in red, white and blue packed Pearl Street in front of Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

They held up American flags and signs that read "Rise Up" and chanted in Spanish, "Sì se puede."

About 3,200 people marched Sunday, according to a tweet from the Dallas Police Department, from the cathedral to Dallas City Hall in the Mega March……

DALLAS – U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Austin who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, said the United States should lead an effort to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power.

"Yes, he's been the problem. He's been the magnet for the Sunni extremists coming into Syria. He's been the architect of the civil war. With him in power, we cannot reach a peaceful settlement," said McCaul to WFAA-TV's Inside Texas Politics on Friday. "I think it's time for Assad to go."
