"The shooting at Tree of Life synagogue is deeply disturbing. The instant dread that is felt from another shooting has become all too familiar. Across the country, we are praying for the victims, their families, law enforcement on the scene, and the entire Jewish community of Pittsburgh.

FEMA and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will be out in the coming week to access preliminary damages.

"I join the Dallas community in mourning the senseless and tragic death of Botham Jean. As I've said all too recently, there is a systemic failure in our criminal justice system to prosecute the unjustified shootings of black men and boys in this country. I'm troubled that the Texas Rangers have yet to issue an arrest warrant for the suspect, who is a Dallas Police officer. My prayers will be with Bo's family and many friends, as we all stand by him, honor his spirit, his zest for life, and his passion for singing that brought joy and comfort to so many people."
"First, as a father, I feel strongly that the verdict reached yesterday in the killing of Jordan Edwards was just. I have a great deal of respect for law enforcement. But, for far too long, unjustified killings and shootings of black men and boys have been taken lightly and not given fair due process in our criminal justice system.
"Senator John McCain was a true patriot, who loved his family and this country before all else. He faced many hard fought battles, but his grit, his belief in working together for the greater good, and his deep loyalty to those in uniform show the measure of his character. He inspired many, and persevered for this country. I'm proud the NDAA could honor his legacy, and I share with the entire McCain family my deepest condolences."
"I believe the work of our military, and the sacrifices their families make on behalf of our country, deserve our continued support. That is why in February, I introduced a bill that would prohibit the expenditure of millions of taxpayer dollars on President Trump's frivolous exercise. A better use of those resources, would be for this Administration to work with Congress to provide additional support for our military families, ease the transition to civilian life, and assist in operations at the Department of Veteran Affairs," said Congressman Veasey.
"Aretha's songs were the soundtrack to a higher power. Chain of Fools; RESPECT; Say A Little Prayer – her lyrics were a powerful croon that transported a generation. Her train picked up 'sinners and saints.' Her stardom on and off the stage is an ode to her personified perfection. She made every stage her hallelujah; and carried us into her state of grace. She cared deeply for her community of Detroit, her family, and of course, the music that kept our souls alight. Forever and ever, you'll stay in our hearts."
