WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of the Congressional Blue Collar Caucus met Wednesday with Richard L. Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO, to discuss the needs of blue collar workers and how House Democrats can make it clear that they will continue to serve as their champion in Washington. Trumka, a national leader in the fight for workers' rights and economic justice, began the discussion with remarks on the modern challenges of labor rights and the ongoing effort by Democrats to respond to the needs of working class families.

The GA Caucus is among the largest caucuses in the House of Representatives and was first formed in 2009 to inform members of Congress about the economic and transportation benefits of general aviation. Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), a pilot and AOPA member, and Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) co-chair the caucus. Graves introduced the Pilot's Bill of Rights 2 in the House to reform the third class medical process and Veasey is a cosponsor of the legislation. The bill currently has 149 bipartisan cosponsors.

Washington, D.C. —Congressman Veasey, TX-33, offered an amendment that passed for consideration as part of Senate amendments to H.R. 22, a long-term transportation and infrastructure bill set for a final vote Wednesday. Veasey's amendment would allow demand transit providers that provide service exclusively to elderly and disabled populations, like Handitran in Arlington, to use Section 5307 Urbanized Area Transit Formula funds for operating costs.

Last month, a bipartisan group of more than 150 lawmakers urged Republican Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to pass an extension. That included Reps. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth; Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas; Jeb Hensarling, R-Dallas; and Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth.

The Association of American Railroads supports the new technology but is pushing for a decision on an extension by the end of the month.
