Dozens of American Airlines employees and a few US Airways workers boarded a charter flight at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport on Tuesday to head to Washington, D.C., to rally in support of the airlines’ merger.
The rally is scheduled to include U.S. Reps. Michael Burgess, R-Flower Mound; Robert Brady, D-Pa.; Pat Meehan, R-Pa.; Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth; and Robert Pittenger, R-N.C.’
U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey of Fort Worth, the only Democrat in the Tarrant County delegation, has called on the Justice Department to drop its opposition to the merger. “American Airlines has been able to recover and regroup,” Veasey said. “But for the long-term viability of the carrier, the merger is not only necessary, but will be good for consumers as well as D-FW jobs and the local economy.”
DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey released the following statement following the American Airlines-U.S. Airways merger:
“I applaud today’s merger announcement. American Airlines is a key Metroplex employer and the American Airlines-U.S. Airways merger means both companies will continue employing people in Dallas and Fort Worth. This was a deal that both management and labor worked on, and it’s a win for everyone involved.”
