Rep. Veasey Handitran Amendment Passes by Bipartisan Vote
Veasey’s amendment to secure continued funding for Handitran and other paratransit services nationwide passes for consideration as part of the long-term transportation bill
Washington, D.C. —Congressman Veasey, TX-33, offered an amendment that passed for consideration as part of Senate amendments to H.R. 22, a long-term transportation and infrastructure bill set for a final vote Wednesday. Veasey's amendment would allow demand transit providers that provide service exclusively to elderly and disabled populations, like Handitran in Arlington, to use Section 5307 Urbanized Area Transit Formula funds for operating costs.
"Transit providers that offer paratransit service in our community, like Handitran, ensure that our elderly and disabled neighbors can remain independent by giving them access to employment, education, healthcare, shopping, and the other services they need. My amendment ensures that some of my most vulnerable constituents can continue to access reliable transportation services and that their independence is not jeopardized." Congressman Veasey said.
