U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, has introduced his first two bills in Congress -- one to help veterans and one to encourage healthy lifestyles. One bill, H.R. 1816, gives more assistance under the post-9/11 GI Bill to veterans seeking degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The other, H.R. 195, designates May as "Health and Fitness Month," and encourages Americans to lead healthy lifestyles.
Veasey was sworn into office in January.

Freshman Congressman Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, reminded his North Texas constituents Tuesday that he is committed to fighting for full equality for LGBT citizens.
Veasey released the following statement today following the opening arguments in the Proposition 8 case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
“As the Supreme Court considers the constitutionality of Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act, I would like to reaffirm my commitment to the LGBT community,” the statement reads.

FORT WORTH – On March 12, 2013, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) announced the awarding of over $500,000 federal funds to the Fort Worth Housing Authority (FWHA). The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $250,000 in Emergency Capital Funds to FWHS, which will be used to improve the safety and security at Butler Place Public Housing Community. Another $269,856 will go to the Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program that assists families with supportive services.
Comprehensive immigration reform must include equal rights for same-sex binational couples, Congressman Marc Veasey told Stonewall Democrats of Dallas on Tuesday night.
“Any bill we pass does not go far enough if same-sex language is not included,” Veasey said. “It absolutely has to be necessary.”

In November’s election, Tarrant County elected its first black representative to the U.S. Congress, Rep. Marc Veasey. He was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2005 and served until winning a seat in the US Congress this election cycle.
