Today in Veasey v. Abbott, attorneys at the Campaign Legal Center, who serve as co-counsel for plaintiffs Congressman Marc Veasey, LULAC, and a group of Texas voters, filed a brief urging the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a District Court ruling striking down Texas' voter photo ID law (SB 14), the most restrictive and burdensome voter ID law in the nation.

"Today, House Republican leadership finally listened to the will of the American people and joined House Democrats in fully funding the Department of Homeland Security through the end of Fiscal Year 2015," Rep. Bills and Hollie-Jawaid's first big break came in 2011 when then-State Rep. Marc Veasey of Fort Worth sponsored a resolution, which the Texas Legislature approved, acknowledging the atrocity.

"Racial tensions ran high in Slocum," Veasey said at the time. "It was an unfortunate occurrence that went unnoticed in Texas history for many years."

WASHINGTON — Black lawmakers from Texans met this afternoon with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, calling it a productive session.

"The president wants to make sure he has a good dialogue with the Congressional Black Caucus for the remaining two years of his presidency," Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, said after the 90-minute meeting. "We got to talk about some things that we agree with and disagree with."

The Stark Administrative Simplification Act, which Boustany introduced with his co-sponsors — Reps. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Ron Kind (D-WI) and Marc Veasey (D-TX) — would limit the financial penalty that can be enforced on a hospital under the Stark Law, which governs physician self-referral for Medicare and Medicaid patients.
