Veasey and other Congressional Black Caucus members meet with Obama

February 10, 2015

WASHINGTON — Black lawmakers from Texans met this afternoon with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, calling it a productive session.

"The president wants to make sure he has a good dialogue with the Congressional Black Caucus for the remaining two years of his presidency," Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, said after the 90-minute meeting. "We got to talk about some things that we agree with and disagree with."

Veasey said priorities include working with the president on changes to Pell Grant programs and student loans, which affect Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

"We want to make sure that any reforms in that area don't make it harder for young students of color that are going to college that want to go to HBCUs are able to attend those institutions," Veasey said.
