Sitting on the House Armed Services Committee is a great responsibility and an opportunity to represent not only the thousands of veterans in the 33rd Congressional District of Texas that I represent in Dallas-Fort Worth, but also the active-duty men and women of our armed forces, national guard and reserve components. While I never served in uniform, I fully understand the great service and sacrifice that our brave men and women have given to our country.
Dear Mr. President,
With the Islamic State, Ebola, the economy and everything else in the mix, I know it's very hard to keep your eye on immigration reform. But I really hope you will take the advice of Rep. Jared Polis, (D-Colo.), Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) and Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) and the 60 other Democratic representatives who sent you a letter recently.
While much of America was upset about the botched rollout of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, most Democrats in Congress were still willing to give the law a chance to work.

The flight, normally about five minutes in the air, lasted about an hour as a ceremonial moving of operations. The airline also had to relocate its plane that flew in from California Sunday.
A federal judge struck down Texas's voter ID law Thursday, comparing the measure to a poll tax that intentionally discriminates against Hispanic and black voters.
"The draconian voting requirements imposed ... will disproportionately impact low-income Texans," U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos wrote in her lengthy 147-page opinion. "A disproportionate number of Texans living in poverty are African-Americans and Hispanics."
D/FW AIRPORT — The Ebola virus death toll has surpassed 4,000, including one in Dallas, and congressional leaders demanded Friday for more to be done to make sure the deadly disease doesn't spread in America.
They asked health officials for answers to questions they are hearing, such as why flights aren't being stopped to and from West African countries and what is being done to protect U.S. troops dispatched to West Africa to help.
