FORT WORTH, TX – On Wednesday, November 6, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) will kick off a day of healthcare-focused visits to Metroplex-area community health centers to hear from physicians, patients and volunteers on health issues impacting constituents.
Dallas, TX – Rep. Marc Veasey, TX-33, visited the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) on Monday, November 4 to tour the facility and to discuss hunger and the potential impacts of food assistance programs due to recent food-aid funding cuts.
Earlier this month, SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, was cut by 5 percent after the 2009 Recovery Act's temporary increase in benefits expired leaving participants with just $1.40 to spend per meal. According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, 3.5 million Texas residents receive SNAP benefits.
Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) hosted a Senior Issues Forum in Fort Worth on Nov. 1, 2013 to address topics such as government benefits, fitness for seniors, and fraud prevention. Senior Citizens Services of Tarrant County and other state and federal agencies joined the Congressman in Fort Worth for this event, including the: Texas AgriLife Extension, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the Social Security Administration and the United States Postal Inspection Service.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Once the clock strikes midnight on October 31st, the 2009 Recovery Act’s temporary 13% boost in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will end. That translates to a substantial reduction in monthly SNAP benefits for thousands of residents across Texas. Local Democratic leaders are holding free workshops for residents to learn about getting low-cost health insurance through the Affordable Care Act and other services in Fort Worth.
Anyone who does not have health insurance, buys health insurance outside of work or has health insurance, Medicaid or Medicare but still finds it hard to afford medical care is welcome at the meetings.
The meetings are sponsored by U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth; state Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth; Tarrant County Commissioner Roy Brooks; and Fort Worth school Trustee Jacinto Ramos.
