Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) today voted to pass the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. The bill is led by Congressional Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass, Senator Cory A. Booker, Senator Kamala D. Harris, and House Judiciary Chair Jerrold Nadler and Congressman Veasey was an original cosponsor. The bill is the first-ever bold, comprehensive approach to hold police accountable and goes much farther to transform the culture of police brutality than the recent Republican proposals.

This letter comes following the recent unlawful detention of U.S. citizen Francisco Erwin Galicia-Chapa who was detained at a Border Patrol checkpoint while on his way to a college soccer tryout even after presenting a valid Texas driver's license.
