WASHINGTON (AP) — Organizaciones hispanas como la Asociación Nacional de Funcionarios Latinos Electos y Designados (NALEO por sus siglas en inglés) y Proyecto Inmigrante destacaron el martes la importancia de un proyecto de ley que busca brindar apoyo a las víctimas de fraude cometido por notarios que se hacen pasar por abogados migratorios.
El representante demócrata de Texas, Marc Veasey, presentó el 5 de agosto una propuesta de ley para proteger a los inmigrantes de fraudes notariales en el trámite de sus documentos migratorios.
Veasey destacó en una conferencia junto a algunas víctimas de fraudes notariales la necesidad de proteger a estas personas y de permitir que se reabran sus casos sin límite de tiempo.
Quienes cometen fraude se aprovechan de la desesperación de los miles de inmigrantes que tratan de regular su situación en EE.UU., agregó.
