Rep. Veasey Votes Against Harmful Republican Anti-Immigrant Bill

December 4, 2014

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting against H.R. 5759, the Preventing Executive Overreach on Immigration Act of 2014, a Republican bill aimed to override the President's Executive Action on Immigration:

"Once again House Republican Leadership continues their anti-immigrant rhetoric. H.R. 5759, the Preventing Executive Overreach on Immigration Act of 2014, is another political ploy taking direct aim at the President's legal executive action to protect millions of hard-working, law-abiding students and families that live in our country.

House Republicans should re-focus their energy on passing comprehensive immigration reform that secures our border, protects our workers, unites our families and provides an earned pathway to citizenship.

Let there be no mistake, the President's executive action is only a temporary fix. The only permanent solution lies with Congress. I stand ready to work with House Republicans when they stop playing games with the lives of immigrant families and come up with a feasible permanent solution to fix our broken immigration system."
