Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement reviewing his key legislative accomplishments since being sworn into office in 2013 and work he has done on behalf of the residents in the 33rd Congressional District:
"As 2015 draws to a close, I would like to take some time to reflect on some of the key legislative goals we have accomplished for the 33rd Congressional District since 2013.
Another Texas Democrat co-sponsors Stefanik "Year Round Pell" legislation
Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Texas, on Thursday, co-sponsored legislation Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, introduced to reinstate the federal "Year Round Pell" program to provide supplemental Pell grants for summer semester, according to the Library of Congress government information website.
Feds investigating ex-school district of student in clock incident
The Department of Justice has launched a civil rights investigation into charges of harassment and possible religious discrimination in the school district where 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed was handcuffed after bringing a clock to school in September.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting in favor of S. 1177, Every Student Succeeds Act:
"Today's landmark legislation is a major step forward in providing a quality education to every student no matter their background. While the agreement is not perfect, I am confident that schools across the DFW Metroplex will benefit from the flexibility provided to local school districts and the increased funds to identify and address the needs of vulnerable students."
New jobs
U.S. Reps. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth, and Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, have something else in common.
The two Texas Wesleyan University graduates will now serve on the college's board of trustees.
They were announced last week as the newest board members, along with the Rev. Ben Disney, Doug Compton and James E. DuBose.
Five new members will join the board of trustees at Texas Wesleyan University, including Rep. Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) and Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Fort Worth), both graduates of the Fort Worth institution.
Veasey graduated from Texas Wesleyan in 1995 and is the sophomore representative for Texas' 33rd Congressional District. Elected in 2012, Veasey serves on the House Armed Services Committee, and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after the Department of Education awarded $2.1 million in Student Support Services Grants to Dallas-Fort Worth colleges and universities:
Two Texas school districts are among the top 20 districts across the country to experience the largest reduction under the funding plan. Houston ISD, with a poverty rate of 33.9 percent, will experience a cut of $17.1 million. Dallas ISD, with a poverty rate of 36.8 percent, will experience a cut of $13 million, according to the report.
