Washington, D.C.—Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 5682, the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act, which would approve the final segment of the Keystone XL pipeline. Sheila Jackson Lee, Al Green, Gene Green, Ruben Hinojosa (CHC Chairman), Henry Cuellar, and Filemon Vela.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 10, 2014 Representative Gene Green (D-TX) led a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY), and Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-NY) requesting increased funding levels for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works program harbor maintenance funding in the House Continuing Resolution (CR).

Earlier this month a severe storm pounded North Texas, leaving Allen resident David Dobrenic wishing he had a storm shelter in his house.

"Just a safety factor, you can't put a price on a life," said Dobrenic.

Last summer Dobrenic signed his family up for the North Central Texas Safe Room Rebate Program, which helps pay for storm shelters.

From the moment it launched, there's been an overwhelming amount of interest.

Molly Thoerner, with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, manages the program. She said they had no idea there would be so much demand.

Texas officials have begun interviewing candidates for the position of state seismologist, Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter said Wednesday.

Porter, testifying before the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, was asked by Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, about residents' concerns about a string of earthquakes around Azle that started in November. The Railroad Commission, which regulates the oil and gas industry in Texas, on Jan. 14 announced its intention to create the new position.

The House on Wednesday passed legislation designed to speed up the federal approval process for mineral mining and exploration, which they said is necessary to ensure the U.S. has domestic sources of strategic minerals.

Democrats said they opposed the bill because it would erode environmental protections, and because the bill includes a very broad definition of "strategic mineral."
