Rep. Veasey Offers American Made Amendment to Keystone Bill

February 11, 2015

House of Representatives will vote on final passage of The Keystone XL Pipeline this week

Washington, D.C.-As the House of Representatives considers final passage of the Keystone XL Pipeline, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, offered an amendment to ensure that the manufactured goods utilized to build the Keystone XL pipeline are made in America.

The language mirrors Senator Al Franken's amendment that would ensure "none of the iron, steel, or manufactured goods used in the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline and facilities approved by this section may be produced outside of the United States."

Congressman Veasey is a supporter of the Keystone Pipeline XL as it would create thousands of jobs nationally. "The creation of the Keystone pipeline would allow for more than 42,000 jobs to be created throughout the United States. My amendment would further ensure that our jobs here at home truly follow the ‘Make it In America' business model which would create and sustain good paying jobs for our hardworking American families. If House Republicans want to follow a jobs focused agenda, my amendment would ensure that American goods will be produced by American workers, keeping jobs here at home." said Congressman Veasey.

Congressman Veasey submitted his amendment during a hearing of the House Rules Committee, but it was not accepted. The House Rules Committee governs what legislation comes to the full House of Representatives to be voted on by all Members of Congress.
