Rep. Veasey’s Statement on 2016 State of the Union Address

January 12, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after President Obama delivered his final State of the Union Address:

“Tonight, President Obama urged us to look to the future of America and to use its unique strengths to address the coming challenges we will undoubtedly face. From preparing the next generation by expanding STEM education to adapting to the changing needs of our economy and its workers, Congress is reminded of its obligation to work on behalf of all Americans regardless of where they come from, who they vote for, or the origin of their family.

For residents in the DFW Metroplex, the problems we face are felt in their everyday lives. The need to raise the minimum wage, the fight to restore access to the ballot box, and the continued need to keep America safe requires all Americans to work together and make their voice heard.

President Obama closed his speech by reminding us of the America the world knows and loves – a country rooted in its commitment to ensuring that anybody who works hard can get ahead. I remain committed to keeping the American Dream accessible for those living and working in Texas’ 33rd Congressional District. My State of the Union guest, Gloria Fuentes, is one of the hardworking Americans that prove the American Dream is alive. I look forward to working with my colleagues across the aisle to make sure that her story of success is the norm and not the exception.”
