Rep. Veasey Presents Military Medals to Family of Candelario Garcia, Jr.
[Austin, Texas]– On Monday, November 10th, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, presented posthumous service medals to the family of Candelario Garcia, Jr. at the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas.
Mr. Garcia, who passed away in January 2013, was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Obama in March of 2014. Earlier this year his brother, Manuel Flores of Oak Cliff, requested Congressman Veasey's help in obtaining copies of his brother's medals that could then be donated to Mr. Garcia's high school in Corsicana.

"I am honored to present this distinguished military award to the late Candelario Garcia, Jr. who in addition to serving our country with honor in Vietnam, also served our community throughout his entire adult life." said Veasey. "As we celebrate Veterans Day, we should all remember the bravery and contributions of all of the service men and women who put their lives, families, and jobs on hold to selflessly defend our nation."
For Mr. Candelario's honorable service in the U.S. Army, his brother, Manuel Flores of Oak Cliff, was presented the following medals by Congressman Veasey: Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze and Silver Star, Combat Infantryman Badge 11sr Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and Expert Badge and Rifle Bar. Rep. Veasey's office continues to work to secure a copy of Mr. Garcia's Congressional Medal of Honor.
