Rep. Veasey Calls for Immediate Release of Congressional Ethics Committee Report on Former Congressman Gaetz
Serious Allegations of Misconduct Undermine the Integrity of the Attorney General Nomination Process
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, joined by several of his colleagues, sent a letter today to Ethics Committee Chairman Mike Guest and Ranking Member Susan Wild, urging the immediate release of the Ethics Committee’s report on former Congressman Matt Gaetz. This call comes as a reaction to Gaetz's recent nomination to serve as Attorney General of the United States.
"The serious allegations against former Representative Gaetz represent a direct threat to the integrity of our nation’s highest legal office," Rep. Veasey said. "In order to make an informed decision, preserve the dignity of the office, and ensure the immense power of the Attorney General will not be abused, it is critical that the Ethics Committee immediately release its report on Gaetz."
Rep. Veasey, who represents Texas' 33rd District, emphasized that the concerns surrounding Gaetz’s potential nomination are shared by millions of Americans, especially Texans, who worry about the consequences of empowering someone with a history of alleged misconduct, most disturbingly when those allegations involve minors to hold such a critical role. "The appointment of Gaetz to Attorney General would send a dangerous message and undermine the trust we all place in our institutions," Congressman Veasey added. "The Ethics Committee must act swiftly to ensure transparency and accountability in this process."
As Gaetz's nomination moves forward, Rep. Veasey remains committed to ensuring all public officials are held to the highest standards and that any nominee for the position of Attorney General is thoroughly vetted and free from any conflicts of interest or ethical concerns.
