Congressman Veasey Statement on Shooting in El Paso, Texas

August 3, 2019

Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) released the following statement on the deadly mass shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas:

"I am devastated by the mass shooting in my home state of Texas that has left at least 20 people dead and injured 26 more. My heart goes out to the victims and their families that were impacted by this senseless act of violence. I am grateful for the heroic first responders that risked their lives to ensure the safety of all of those that were impacted by this tragedy.

Events like this are becoming disturbingly commonplace in our country. This is the third mass shooting that occurred in America just this past week, and the Senate must act now to pass the common-sense gun control legislation that the House of Representatives advanced. Thoughts and prayers are not enough—lives of innocent men, women and children are being lost at the hands of this epidemic every day. Today we mourn for El Paso, and tomorrow my colleagues and I will continue to push for the needed reforms that will protect our communities."
