Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) Statement on Murder Charge in Fatal Police Shooting of Atatiana Jefferson

Congressman Marc Veasey released the following statement after a Fort Worth police officer was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Atatiana Jefferson:

"No amount of justice will bring Atatiana back. Her death is a wrongful and untimely loss, and I mourn with her family and friends during this horrible time.

While this arrest is a tiny step towards progress, justice will never be fully served until our law enforcement reforms their culture of rogue policing that has lead to the frequent slaughter of members across minority communities.

We have to do better. Until we fix these systematic failures, black and brown communities cannot have full confidence in those that are tasked with protecting us."
