On a 97-degree morning, a new employee at the Taylors Farm Apartments in Dallas was picking up and taking trash to the dumpster, fixing appliances and responding to residents' maintenance requests.

To some of the residents, he looked just like Congressman Marc A. Veasey, a Democrat whose 33rd district covers the apartment community.

Spoiler alert: He actually was Congressman Marc A Veasey, spending the morning working alongside staff to better understand the working and housing challenges his constituents face.

Earlier this month a severe storm pounded North Texas, leaving Allen resident David Dobrenic wishing he had a storm shelter in his house.

"Just a safety factor, you can't put a price on a life," said Dobrenic.

Last summer Dobrenic signed his family up for the North Central Texas Safe Room Rebate Program, which helps pay for storm shelters.

From the moment it launched, there's been an overwhelming amount of interest.

Molly Thoerner, with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, manages the program. She said they had no idea there would be so much demand.

DALLAS- FORT WORTH, TEXAS-- U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, TX-33, today highlighted new economic data showing jobs progress in Dallas-Fort Worth and called for Congressional action to accelerate economic development and jobs recovery.
According to a new report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the North Texas economy has grown at a "moderately strong pace" and is outperforming the state.
