KVUE: Rep. Veasey discusses issues with TX Voter ID Laws

"There is every reason to think the discriminatory Voter ID law will result in fewer Texans voting than would otherwise vote.  At this point in the November election, however, it is too soon to draw conclusions. Local and municipal elections in off years historically have a lower voter turnout, which makes it difficult to draw conclusions from non-representative data. This election and the new voting law have been shown to present problems for many women, who are more likely to have name changes than their male counterparts. We should be making it easier for Texans to exercise their right to vote, not more difficult." -- Rep. Marc Veasey, TX-33 Statement to KVUE-Austin

Congressman Veasey Speaks at a Special Order about Raising the Debt Ceiling

On October 14, 2013, I spoke with my fellow members of Congress about the importance of raising our nation's debt ceiling.  If we do not raise the debt limit, we will face the first default in our nation's history and our recovering economy may not recover.  This is our economic livelihood at stake.  We will not let the full faith and credit of the United States be up for negotiation.

WFAA-ABC/ WorldDailynews: Texas Representatives encouraged by talks on shutdown, default

We are finally beginning to move towards progress after a meeting between Republican House Members and President Obama as shown in this WFAA-ABC report.  The meeting involved discussions on raising the debt limit before our nation defaults. Sadly, there was still no mention of reopening the government. While I am happy to see progress being made, I will continue to fight to get this government moving again and end this shutdown.
