Veasey Statement on Short-Term Continuing Resolution
Veasey votes in favor of short term CR to fund government until Dec. 16, condemns GOP cycle of crises
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting in favor of the Senate Amendments to H. R. 2250, a short term Continuing Resolution to fund government operations until December 16, 2015:
"House Republican Leadership must stop funding our government on a month-to-month basis. After narrowly averting a government shutdown in September, I remained hopeful that House Republicans would begin negotiations with House Democrats before another crisis was knocking on the door. Instead, just days before the December 11th funding deadline, House Republican Leadership failed to offer House Democrats a long term bill that did not include special interest provisions such as defunding the Affordable Care Act and creating further restrictions on Syrian refugee resettlement.
When Congress returns to work on Tuesday, I remain committed to working across the aisle to fund our government in a responsible long-term way. I urge my House Republican colleagues to put the priorities of the American people first and bring an end to their partisan agenda."
