Statement: Rep. Veasey Response to American-US Airways Settlement with DOJ and State Attorneys General

November 12, 2013

Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33 released the following statement in response to the recent settlement agreement reached with the U.S. Department of Justice and state Attorneys General resolving the lawsuit filed against American Airlines-US Airways merger:

"I applaud today's decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to settle this case and allow the completion of the merger between American Airlines and US Airways. Since the beginning, I have been keenly focused on the success of this merger and maintained that it would provide job security to thousands of DFW-Metroplex employees and access to predictable and affordable air travel for millions of passengers. This is why, last month, I led sixty-eight House Democrats in expediting a letter to President Obama asking him consider the financial harm to thousands of families and local economies across the country if the merger failed. I'm very pleased that American Airlines and U.S. Airways have reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice and state Attorneys General that will allow the combination of these two airlines to move forward. The Department of Justice did the right thing by allowing concessions. This merger will create jobs and strengthen our economy. I will continue to work to make sure that all parties, including the workers and customers, benefit from this deal. " – Marc Veasey, TX-33
