Rep. Veasey's Statement on State of Disaster in Tarrant County and Affected Areas

October 1, 2018

Governor Greg Abbott issued a state of disaster Friday evening that included Tarrant County, and the cities of Everman and Forest Hill in Congressional District 33.

Washington, D.C. – On Friday, September 28, Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation declaring a state of disaster in parts of Tarrant County. Due to the severe weather and flooding that began on September 21, 2018, there has been widespread and severe property damage in parts of Texas Congressional District 33, which Congressman Veasey represents, including the cities of Forest Hill and Everman. FEMA and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will be out in the coming week to access preliminary damages.

"My top priority is to have the State of Texas get the cities of Everman and Forest Hill the resources they need to get back on their feet," said Congressman Marc Veasey. "I have reached out to the Governor's office, and have been in discussion with Mayor Lyndia Thomas and Mayor Ray Richardson to provide resources and support to the cities of Everman and Forest Hill. We will continue to work with the Red Cross and with the Governor's office to help these affected communities receive the support they need."

Congressman Veasey was at the command center at Everman City Annex on Sunday, September 22, to assist Red Cross workers and help displaced residents find shelter and locate family members. If you are still in need of help or need assistance locating a relative, please reach out to Red Cross on their website or by calling their hotline: 1-800-RED CROSS.
