Rep. Veasey (TX-33) Statement on Passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) today released the following statement after voting for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This $550 billion package is the largest investment in the nation’s infrastructure in nearly a century and includes Veasey-led priorities to expand nationwide access to affordable broadband and secure key investments to enable a net-zero carbon emission economy.
“I am proud to have voted for the largest long-term investment in our country’s infrastructure in nearly a century,” said Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33). “The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will create good-paying jobs, invest in a foundation for strong economic growth, and ensure communities across our country can succeed in the 21st century. For the state of Texas, this legislation includes over $3 billion to improve public transportation options across the state, $26.9 billion for federal-aid highway apportioned programs, and $100 million to help provide broadband coverage our state.”
“I am pleased that the bipartisan infrastructure package also includes key priorities that I have advocated for. At the beginning of the pandemic, I introduced legislation that created the Emergency Broadband Benefit program, which has helped economically vulnerable Americans to afford their monthly internet bill. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act invests billions more in this program, turning it from an emergency benefit to a long-term program for struggling households. Additionally, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes provisions from my bipartisan SCALE Act that support the infrastructure buildout necessary to enable a net-zero emissions economy. The inclusion of my priorities will help Texans in the district I represent, and Americans across our country, live better lives.”
