Rep. Veasey Statement on Vote Against Dangerous, Hyper-Partisan House GOP Supplemental
Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Veaseyreleased the following statement after voting against House Republicans' hyper-partisan supplemental appropriations bill:
"America is a stronger nation when we work together with our allies to tackle the complex problems we face across our globe."
"Unfortunately, the bill that we voted on today forces us to play partisan games instead of offering support to our allies and innocent civilians in this critical moment. In his first act as Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson abandoned bipartisanship for a bill that recklessly uses aid to Israel as a bargaining chip. The bill also rejects critical support for Ukraine and humanitarian relief for civilians in Gaza. Lastly, this bill will cost American taxpayers an additional $12.5 billion.
“Poison pill bills such as this cannot be the standard going forward, and that is exactly why I voted against it today. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to bring a full supplemental request that will quickly give aid to Israel, bolster humanitarian relief, defend our national security, and uphold our values of being a moral leader on the international stage."
