Rep. Veasey Statement on Violence in Israel

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after the recent outbreak of violence in Jerusalem:

"I join the nation in condemning the recent eruption of violence committed in Jerusalem. I continue to stand firm in my belief that Israel has the fundamental right to defend itself and its citizens from any unnecessary violence they may face. Israelis deserve the right to live in peace and not in constant fear for their safety. It is critical that Palestinian President Abbas takes the necessary steps to restore calm and prevent actions that would further escalate tensions.

The recent spike in violence marks a clear need for a two-state solution. Until the unnecessary violence stops and peaceful negotiations occur between the Israelis and the Palestinians, achieving a long-term solution will be difficult. During these trying times, I continue to offer my unwavering support and solidarity to Israel and its ability to defend itself as necessary."
