Rep. Veasey Slams GOP on 2018 Government Shutdown

January 20, 2018

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, issued the following statement after Senate Republicans refused to negotiate with Senate Democrats to pass bipartisan priorities as part of a long-term funding bill:

"Despite controlling the House, Senate, and the White House, Republicans once again failed the American people by shutting down the government. Instead of coming to the table and working with Democrats to do what is best for our economy and uphold our founding principles, Republicans chose to concede to the extremist wings of their party in order to pit two groups of vulnerable children against each other. This is not the way the American people elected us to govern. It's now up to Republicans to reopen the government by working across the aisle to pass a funding package that both protects our national security and DREAMers."
