Rep. Veasey Response to HHS Report on Lower Than Expected Healthcare Premiums in Texas Health Insurance Marketplaces

September 26, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33 released the following statement in response to a new report by the Department of Health and Human Services that consumers in 36 states, including Texas, will see increased competition and lower than expected premiums in the Health Insurance Marketplaces:

"I am excited to see that rates in the Texas Marketplace are even lower than originally projected. This report reaffirms what many of us have known all along - starting October 1st uninsured Texans will be able to receive quality, affordable health coverage through the Affordable Care Act," said Rep. Veasey. “As Health Insurance Marketplaces come online next week, it is vital that we continue to educate American consumers, dispel partisan myths, get the uninsured enrolled in the federal marketplace in Texas, and keep them properly informed on the benefits of the health care law. My goal is to continue to fight for all uninsured citizens in my district, in our state, and across the country to make sure affordable health insurance is within reach for everyone. ”

Consumers can get help finding Marketplace coverage through a number of different resources. They can get more information through HealthCare.gov or in Spanish through cuidadodesalud.gov. They can participate in an online web chat or call 1-800-318-2596 toll free (TTY: 1-855-889-4325) to speak with a trained customer service representative with translation services available in 150 languages. There will also be people in local communities who can provide in-person help with coverage choices. Those will include Navigators and other assisters, community health centers across the country, local libraries, and hundreds of Champions for Coverage that have signed up to help consumers learn about their options.
