Veasey awards Jose Resendiz, senior from Everman High School, as TX-33 winner of annual art contest

Dallas, TX – On Saturday, April 16, 2016, Congressman Veasey honored Jose Resendiz, senior from Everman High School, as the winning artist to represent the Texas’ 33rd Congressional District in the 2016 Congressional Art Competition. Resendiz’ winning entry, “Rancho Alegre,” will be displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol for a year.

“Each year, I have the opportunity to recognize the young artistic talent present in Texas’ 33rd Congressional District. I am excited to welcome Jose as the latest artist to display his work in the halls of the U.S. Capitol,” said Congressman Veasey. “I can see the effort and the thought put into each participating student’s work and I look forward to thousands of visitors experiencing the art Jose has shared with us today.”

Judges shared that Jose’s attention to detail and the dichotomy of the urban and rural landscapes distinguished “Rancho Alegre” from the other entries. Over 60 students from schools across the DFW Metroplex participated in this year’s art competition, including honorable mentions in no particular order: Angie Fuentes from Booker T. Washington High School for An American Summer, Olivia Najera from Jack E. Singley Academy for Static, and Angel Vasquez from Booker T. Washington High School for Downtown Dallas.

As the winner of the Congressional Art Competition, Mr. Resendiz is invited to fly to Washington, D.C., in late June to attend the winners’ reception, where he will also be able to witness his artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol. The winner is also awarded a $3,000 scholarship to the Savannah School of Art and Design.
