Rep. Veasey Leads Discussion on Jobs, Expanding Educational Opportunities with Bell Helicopter Expert
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus Access to Jobs Task Force, led a discussion with Members of Congress and experts on jobs, education, and vocational training to discuss how Democrats can further promote commonsense policies that benefit working men and women in America.
As part of the House Democratic Caucus Jobs for America effort, the Access to Jobs Task Force met to consider ways to expand apprenticeships and the middle class and create opportunities for the hardest-working individuals in the country.
"Apprenticeships in the manufacturing sector ensure that we train top talent in companies that offer good-paying jobs for our workforce. By ensuring we connect our future workforce with readily available jobs right here in the DFW Metroplex and across the nation, we have the ability to maintain our nation's competitive edge in the 21st century," Congressman Marc Veasey said.
Congressman Veasey invited Tricia Hiros, Principal Engineer, Manufacturing Projects for Bell Helicopter & Skills Committee Chair for DFW Aerospace Consortium to provide expert testimony at the forum.
The Access to Jobs Task Force will help workers achieve their full potential by expanding access to capital, educational opportunities – including vocational skills development, professional licensing, and apprenticeship training – and eliminating senseless and outdated social barriers to work that affect many communities.
The five Democratic Caucus Jobs for America Task Forces will create opportunities for growth, boost hardworking families, and give every worker the opportunity to achieve the American dream by developing legislation focused on investing in key industries. The effort was launched by House Democratic Caucus.
"Apprenticeship and other programs can help open the doors of opportunity for hardworking men and women, providing American workers with the chance to develop skills that allow them to advance in their fields," said House Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley (D-NY). "With the leadership of Rep. Veasey, I'm confident in our ability to make policy that will improve the skill development of American workers."
"Today's global economy offers more opportunities for success than ever before," said Vice Chair Linda T. Sánchez. "But to make that possible, we must ensure that more hard-working Americans are able to learn the skills necessary to compete for good paying jobs in today's most in-demand industries. Rep. Veasey's work on the Access to Jobs Task Force to expand apprenticeship programs will help our middle class thrive by closing our skills gap and raising household wages."
