Rep. Veasey Joins Secretary Fudge in Fort Worth to Highlight $345M Affordable Housing Investment
FORT WORTH - Today, Representative Marc Veasey welcomed U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia L. Fudge in Fort Worth. Representative Veasey and Secretary Fudge met with future tenants of Cowan Place, a future affordable housing community. Cowan Place is a 174-unit mixed-income, senior living community that forms Phase I of the Stop Six Choice Neighborhood Initiative that was made possible by a $345 million HUD grant investment in the neighborhood.
"Having a roof over your head is a necessity that so many people struggle to access because of high housing costs," said Rep. Veasey (TX-33). "I was proud to welcome Secretary Fudge to Cowan Place in Fort Worth today to discuss how we can meet this challenge by making housing more affordable and accessible for people of all ages. Once completed, Cowan Place will be a huge boon to an area that has historically not had enough investment to meet its housing needs."
In April 2020, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Fort Worth Housing Solutions and the City of Fort Worth a $35 million Choice Neighborhood Initiative Implementation Grant to help development outlined in a related Transformation Plan for Cowan Place and other affordable housing units. This funding is part of a $345 million HUD grant investment over six years for the neighborhood.
