Rep. Veasey Congratulates Six DFW Schools Named as Recipients of Sprint’s 1Million Project

August 14, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Sprint Foundation announced six schools in Congressman Marc Veasey's 33rd Congressional District of Texas were selected to participate in Sprint's 1Million Project. As part of their selection, Everman Academy High School, Everman Early College High School, Everman Joe C Bean High School, Cardewell Career Prep, Irving High School, and Nimitiz High School, will be provided with free devices and wireless service as part of a larger effort to connect 1 million low-income high school students who do not have home internet access over a period of five years.

"For today's students in the digital age, education is increasingly more reliant on broadband access," said Congressman Marc Veasey. "The Sprint Foundation's 1Million Project will help close the educational achievement gap for DFW area high school students so they have access to the resources they need to succeed."

According to a 2015 PEW Research Center analysis, approximately 5 million households with school-age children between the ages of 6 and 17 do not have high-speed internet service at home. Low-income households –especially black and Hispanic homes– make up a disproportionate share of that 5 million.
