Rep. Veasey Condemns House GOP’s Anti-Immigrant Amicus Brief
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement as House Republican leadership calls for a vote on House Resolution 639, a resolution authorizing Speaker Paul Ryan to file an amicus brief on behalf of the House of Representatives in United States v. Texas, the Supreme Court case that challenges President Obama’s immigration executive actions:
“House Republican leadership’s decision to bring forward a resolution to file an anti-immigrant amicus brief with the Supreme Court is the latest political gimmick to attempt to undermine President Obama’s immigration executive actions. Instead of reaching across the aisle to fix our broken immigration system, GOP leadership prefers to hide what they intend to include in the brief and only further fan the flames of anti-immigrant sentiment. In the DFW Metroplex, nearly 175,000 hardworking immigrants are eligible for the expanded DACA / DAPA programs. They deserve an opportunity to finally come out of the shadows and fully contribute to the only country they call home. I will continue to use my voice in Congress to fight for the millions of immigrants who have already contributed so much to our country and the many more that are ready to live without fear of deportation.”
