Washington, D.C—Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, announced that the 33rd Congressional District of Texas will start accepting applications for the annual Congressional Art Competition. Since 1982, the Congressional Art Competition has highlighted the talent of young artists nationwide with over 650,000 students participating in the annual competition.
The local winner along with the rest of the participants will be honored at a reception at Mountain View College. The winner will also be rewarded with two roundtrip tickets to attend the ribbon cutting ceremonies of the art exhibit in Washington, D.C. A panel of local art experts will judge each student’s work and choose the winner and the runners-up.
Last year, Congressman Marc Veasey named Paola Rivera, sophomore from Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy, as the winning student for the 33rd District’s Congressional Art Competition. Rivera’s winning entry, “Marco,” combined the traditional mediums of photography, elements of paint, and technology. All art submissions are honored at the district’s reception and the winner was recognized in a reception in Washington, D.C.

To be considered for the 2016 Congressional Art Competition, original artwork should come from high school students living in the 33rd Congressional District and should be submitted to either the Fort Worth or Dallas district office by 5 PM on April 8, 2016.
